Social and economical structure in the mid 19 century and administrive status of Bayat sub-district belonging to İski̇li̇p township of Çorum district

Ottaman Empire entered into the process of a new evolution and Westernisation with the declaration of the political reforms made in the Ottoman state in 1839.There was also a new tax system among these evolutions and reforms which would be done. People's real estate, land property and animal incomes, based on their earnings, is foreseeen to be counted with this tax to be applied. This written Divident Records based on this counting gave significant and detailed information about social and economical conditions belongs to its region. We accordingly searched social and economical system which belongs to Bayat District associated with İskilip Township on where situated Ankara State's Çorum District's borders in 1844-1845. We capitalised on Bayat Divident Records as the main source. But topics such as instutions and governing structure were not examined in these records made only tax regulation. We tried to complete imperfect knowledge about this subject with other archival resources and other studyings relevant to district. First we started to our research, comprised of 4 sections explain the name of Bayat and we gave detailed information about the history of İskilip and Bayat location fromearly ages to modern days. After that we spoke of administrive and financial reforms after the political reforms in Ottoman State in 1839.Later we mentioed the subjects about Ottoman Empire's tax organisation and writings of cadastral record books. We gave roughly information obout divident records and cadastral record books. In the second section of our research, instutional and social structure, population and occupational cluster were included by the borders of that era we examined. Moreover the information about this district's population and villages were mention according to population records. In the third section, we gave detailed information about agriculture and stockbreeding which is the main economic activity of Bayat. Especially quantity of precessed soil and agricultural crops, in terms of their types, have been effortfully simplified to be more understandable with the help of tables and graphics. Then animals were touched upon in a detailed perpective viev according yo their species and expenses. İn the fourth section, the sources which biring income and the trade activities which biring side income in distirict has been mentioned as well as stating Bayat Disctrict's economic structure in mid-19 th centruy. Besides, taxation of district, types of taxes and distribution of them were dwelled on this section. We tried to enlight the history of Bayat Discrict which belongs to İskilip Township in mid-19th century before it became a township during Republic Era.
