Measuring the level of alcohol addiction in the Covid-19 pandemic with a classical and Bayesian approach

Throughout history, people have faced various illness. While some of the diseases encountered affect people in certain regions, some of them are not limited to a single region but have a global impact. This situation, which is called a outbreak, not only affects people in terms of health, but also has negative effects in many areas. As seen in the literature, it is stated that individuals who are negatively affected during pandemic periods can tend to various negative behaviors. The concept of addiction comes to the fore among the behaviors that individuals tend to. In this context, it is aimed to determine the existence of individuals' tendencies towards alcohol addiction during the epidemic process. The sample of the study consists of 1068 individuals aged 20 and over living in Turkey. In line with the aim of the study in this thesis, in which the quantitative method is used; Demographic data form, questions about COVID-19, "Severity of Alcohol Addiction", "Alcohol Consumption Questions", "Alcohol Use Disorder Recognition Test (AUDIT)", "COVID-19 Anxiety Scale (CAS)" and "Coping with Epidemic Scale" were used. As a result of the study, the effect of gender, marital status, employment status, catching the COVID-19 virus, loss of a relative due to COVID-19, being vaccinated for COVID-19, sleep disturbance during the COVID-19 term, and the effect of sleep disturbance on alcohol consumption during the COVID-19 period. A statistically significant difference was determined according to the results obtained from the "Alcohol Consumption Questions" and "Alcohol Use Disorder Recognition Test" data when the eating disorder during the COVID-19 period and the amount of alcohol consumed in a day before COVID-19 were examined. Also within the scope of the study: Variables that have an effect on Alcohol Addiction Severity "Gender + Working Status + Working Time + Loss of a relative due to COVID-19 + How much Alcohol Intake Status in a day before COVID-19 + CAS + Cognitive Coping + Behavioral Coping + AUDIT" based on both classical and Bayesian regression models. In the light of the relevant literature, the findings were discussed and suggestions were made.
