The experienced by intersive care nurses working in the COVID-19 pandemic hospitaland its effects on psychology

The COVID-19 pandemic originated in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. A global epidemic was declared by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. Many healthcare workers have lost their lives due to the corona virus in our country and all over the world. The increase in the number of positive patients has increased the need for intensive care. The increase in the number of patients hospitalized in intensive care units during the pandemic process has given nurses more duties and responsibilities. Instant follow-up of the patients in intensive care, long shifts, increased contact with the virus while caring for patients, fear of transmitting the virus, lack of access to protective equipment and high mortality rate of the disease increased the work stress of nurses working in intensive care. However, the pandemic process has caused some physical, psychological and spiritual problems in nurses. COVID-19 pandemic in nurses; anxiety, depression, increase in cigarette and substance use, job dissatisfaction, decrease in work efficiency, burnout, quitting work, deterioration in family relations, interpersonal communication problems. The aim of the study is to determine the work stress and psychological effects of the intensive care nurses working in the pandemic hospital. The study was applied to 93 nurses working in the COVID-19 intensive care unit in Bitlis Tatvan State Hospital. In the work, he has reached the whole of his universe The data of the cross-sectional study; In the first part, it was collected with a 21-question survey questioning the demographic characteristics and working life of the employees, and then the Work Stress Scale consisting of 14 questions. 49.5% of the participant nurses stated that they enjoyed their job. The rate of participants stating that job stress has increased since the pandemic process is 90,3%. The job stress mean score of the participants was calculated as 3.25 (Ss=0.64). Work stresses of the participants included in the study were found in the F category. This category indicates the level of stress that has a high level of responsibility, challenges the person in terms of time, does not allow rest and family relationships, and therefore threatens health and productivity. Thanks to this study, the stress sources of nurses working in the COVID-19 intensive care unit should be determined and necessary measures should be taken to protect their mental health.
