Investigation of the relationship between university students' emotional intelligence characteristics and their stress collection during the Covid-19 pandemic process

The aim of this study is to determine whether there is a significant relationship between the emotional intelligence characteristics and stress coping styles of university students studying distance education and their demographic characteristics during the Covid-19 pandemic, and to reveal the relationship between students' views on distance education and their emotional intelligence characteristics and stress coping styles.The research, which is within the scope of the relational survey model, was carried out with 387 students selected by using the stratified sampling method, studying at the associate and undergraduate level at Çağ University. The data of the study were obtained with the Personal Information Form created by the researcher to reach the information about the participants, the Emotional Intelligence Characteristics Scale (CIS-SF) and the Styles of Coping with Stress Scale (SBST). The obtained data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.00 package program. The analysis findings showed that higher levels of emotional intelligence were associated with better coping skills in times of stress. In addition, there is a significant relationship between the emotional intelligence characteristics of the students and their gender and socio-economic characteristics; It has been determined that there is no relationship between students' age, gender, class level and socio-economic characteristics in terms of coping style with stress and coping style with stress. In addition, students with high emotional intelligence are more satisfied with their online learning environments, find the distance education infrastructure sufficient and encounter fewer problems in this process; It has been observed that students' coping styles with stress change according to their satisfaction with distance education, finding the distance education infrastructure sufficient and their success in the course.
