Abstract (EN)
Women's labor-force involvement is highly variable across countries, often reflecting distinct economic, social, and cultural landscapes. As economies advance, women's participation in the labor force tends to increase, yet the specific developmental stage of each nation moderates this relationship. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified existing gender disparities in the labor market, with the economic fallout impacting women more severely than men. Our research reveals that women have been disproportionately affected economically by the pandemic. Notably, women belonging to ethnic minorities, migrants, those with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ community have faced exacerbated challenges. These factors have contributed to an increased negative economic impact, intensifying the existing inequalities. The pandemic, most acutely felt during 2020 and 2021, has necessitated widespread individual and societal adaptations. Women have been particularly vulnerable to these shifts, whether through increased engagement in remote work due to pandemic restrictions or heightened job insecurity as businesses grapple with economic strain. This study delves into the myriad ways COVID-19 has reshaped women's work lives, underlining the critical role of supportive policies such as affordable childcare and flexible working arrangements in mitigating these disparities and fostering resilience in the face of such global challenges.
