Analyzing the effect of Covid-19 outbreak on consumer purchasing behavior: An application in the retail sector

The Covid-19 pandemic is generally expressed as the lethal/contagious state of the coronavirus group, which is known to be of animal origin, by mutation. In the 21st century, cases such as MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV are known because of different mutations of this coronavirus family. The aim of the current study was determined as the examination of customer satisfaction in 16-day different product groups before and after the COVID-19 pandemic from a local market. For this reason, one-way analysis of variance was used to evaluate the total distribution of 16-day product groups before and after the Covid-19 case on the basis of kg/piece per customer, and the confidence interval was taken as 95%. After the Covid 19 case was announced, the total number of customers for 16 days was determined as 70360, while the total number of customers for 16 days was determined as 34507 as of the date of the announcement of the case. Although it was determined that the general distribution decreased after the pandemic, especially for different product groups, it was determined that there were serious increases based on kg/piece per person after the announcement of the pandemic. In addition, it has been determined that there is a statistical difference for all product groups before and after the pandemic, both in total and on the basis of kg/piece per person. As a result, it has been determined that customer demand for different product groups has changed depending on the Covid 19 pandemic.
