Retrospective examination of pregnancy outcomes in pregnants with COVID infection during the COVID pandemic

Our study is a retrospective study. We examined the data of 59 patients with active Covid-19 infection during birth and pregnancy termination who applied to our Eskişehir Osmangazi University Gynecology and Obstetrics clinic between April 2020 and August 2022. Of these 59 patients, 53 were born in our clinic, and the pregnancies of 6 were terminated. The patients' demographic data, delivery methods, cesarean section indications, birth weeks, comorbidities, newborn birth weights, APGAR scores, antenatal screening test results, invasive test results, fetal anomaly screening results, and whether the patients needed an intensive care unit were documented and determined. The average age of the cases was found to be 30.7 years. The average week of birth of the cases was determined as the 37th week of pregnancy, and 32.1% of the births were determined to occur before the 37th week. 83% of the cases were delivered by cesarean section and 7% were delivered vaginally. The most common indication for cesarean section was previous cesarean section history with 22.5% of the cases. 9% of newborn babies were intubated and followed up after birth. 25% of newborn babies were born with low birth weight and 1% were born with high birth weight. 32% of the cases use low molecular weight heparin during birth or termination and are under thromboembolism prophylaxis treatment. It was determined that 11% of the cases required level 3 intensive care in the postpartum period. Exitus occurred in 6% of the cases while they were being followed up in the level 3 intensive care unit during the postpartum period. Covid-19 infection has caused serious mortality and morbidity throughout the world during the pandemic, and one of the most affected groups in this process was pregnant women. In this study, we compared the pregnancy and postpartum outcomes of pregnant women with active Covid-19 infection in our clinic with literature data and aimed to create a database for our clinic.
