Investigation of removing dissolved boron from waters with high content by small scale constructed wetland systems

Abstract (EN)

In this study, removal high content of Boron from waters by constructed wetlands was investigated. In this respect, two small scale constructed wetland systems including different wetland plants were established under open-air in Kırka Borax Production Plant. As a result of work performed, average removal efficient rate for Typha latifolia L. (Typhaceae) and Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. Ex steud. (Poaceae) are %40 and %27, respectively. The highest total B contents of the plants stood at 296 and 249 mg kg-1, and accumulation ratio for the same plants are %40 and %26, respectively. The results showed that vegetation in constructed wetland is important on efficient rate. The results of the present study in field could serve as a useful tool; constructed wetland system was an effective removing for treatment of water or underwater contaminated with high concentrations of B, ability potential of plants harvesting in the system, determinating affect of elevated CO2 on plants in constructed wetland.
