Abstract (EN)

Improving knowledge and skills in university is one of the most crucial challenges in a person's life. Especially, medical education is longer, more stressful, and intenser process than other education fields. Students often testify the situations the concern of development of professional skills as well as which might be perceived as personal traumas(diseases, disabilities, unhappiness, death etc.) in their educational lives. The medical students who are stressed as being exposed to these kind of challenges and stresses, dealing with problems, finding solutions and maintaining the improvement of positive emotions skill also gains importance. Therefore, the psychological resilience, happiness level and the skills of usage of positive humour of doctor candidates have crucial roles in their future lives. The main aim of this study is analysing the relationship between psychological resilience and the humour and happines level of medical students at Çukurova University in their first three years of schooling. Another aim of the study is to understand the differences of this relationship according to different demographic scales. The study consists of 393 people in total which includes 185 males and 208 females. All of the participants are medical students in different levels (1th, 2nd and 3th degrees) of their study at Çukurova University. According to this study there is a mid-level correlation (r=0,63) between the psychological resilience and happiness of the participants. However, the correlation between their psychological resilience and humour differs according to kind of humour. In this scale: SMPS and participatory humour has r=0,38 corelation; and humour of self development has r=0,49 which both are considered as positive, mid-level correlations. On the other hand, SMPS and agresive humour has r=-0,29 correlation; while it has -0,26 which both are considered as weak and negative correlations. In addition, the relationship between happiness and senses of humour has been examined. In this scale: the correlation between happiness and participatory humour is r=0,50; happiness and humour of self development r=0,42 which are classified as mid-level and positive. However, the correlation between happiness and agressive humour is r=0,42; and self destructive humour is r=-0,43 which are classified as mid-level and, negative. The study has three different data collection arguments: Brief Resilient Coping Scale(BRCS); BriefForm of happiness Scale of Oxford (BFHS-O); and, humour experience scale(HE). The average of psychological resiliencepoint and humour of self development point low among the second degree medical students while the average of agressive point and self destructive point is higher than other students. The points of psychological resilience differ according to genders while other results have no valuable differences in comparison of genders. The point of psychological resilience of males is higher than females according to the analysed data. The used data has shown that successful students have higher points of psychological resilience, happiness and, in some cases of humour (participatory and self development). Based on acquired findings, significant differences have found in terms of gender, academic success, family structure, educational background of father, and class level between psychological resilience and happiness level with humour styles.
