Abstract (EN)
Güneş is a Republican Era magazine issued first in 1927 by Orhan Seyfi Orhon. It consisted of 17 issues that were published at intervals of 15 days between January 1 and October 15, 1927.Güneş had a different content and atmosphere in comparison to other magazines published in the same period such as, Küçük Mecmua, Hayat, Resimli Ay, Millî Mecmua. Contrary to scientific seriousness seen in these magazines, Güneş carried a more independent stand and focused on softer issues. Writer and poet staff of the magazine included Abdülhâk Hamit, Faik Ali, Süleyman Nazif, Faruk Nafiz, Enis Behiç, Yusuf Ziya, Şükufe Nihal, Orhan Seyfi, Sabahattin Ali, Kenan Hulusi, Sabri Esat. As it can be understood from the literary staff, the magazine brought different perceptions together. Yet, it is worth to note that Beş Hececiler and people close to them were the dominant names. The magazine Güneş gave way to literary genres like poems, stories, theaters, literary memoirs as well as travel writings, maxims, philosophical thoughts, epigrams relating to celebrities, jokes and articles. Poems contained the themes of love, homeland, death and nature. Concerning the forms, in addition to aruz, polysyllable and verse forms from the folk literature were preferred for the most part.Articles that loom a large place in the magazine consisted of works on Old Literature, New Literature, Western Literature and their representatives. Additionally, many literary memoirs by the important names of the concerned time period were published in the magazine. The magazine witnessed two main discussions; one to be with the writer of another magazine and the other to be between two writers within the journal. The magazine was closed down on October 15, 1927 after its 17th issue had been published. No information stating the reason behind the closure of the magazine has been available. Yet, it is possible to relate the closure to the probable decline in number of readers following the alphabet revolution.Key Words: Gunes, Literary Genres, Republican Era, Press, Magazine
