Reflections of educational policy of the Republic period to Ağrı province (1923-1960)

Following the success of the War of Independence movement, which was carried out with the total participation of the Anatolian people under the leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Pasha, the Republic of Turkey was established on October 29, 1923. In order for the Republican regime to survive forever, the development of society could only be possible through education, apart from political, social and economic breakthroughs., the education-politics dilemma has reduced the quality of education. Ağrı is one of the Eastern provinces where the education policies of the Republican period (1923-1960) were tried to be implemented. Before the Republic period, Ağrı was behind both quantitatively and qualitatively in the field of education, and more than 90% of the society was illiterate. During the Republican period, a primary school was opened in Ağrı in 1924, a secondary school in 1934, and a high school in 1953. With the vocational and technical education institutions established in Ağrı, qualified personnel were trained in the areas needed by the province. Educational institutions established in the province supported the socio-cultural and economic fabric of Ağrı. The cultural atmosphere has been developed in Ağrı, one of the most remote provinces of the East, with investments in education and social assistance. This thesis study titled "Reflections of Republican Era Education Policies on Ağrı Province (1923-1960)" consists of an Introduction and two chapters. The study, was prepared to reveal the reflections of educational policies on the province of Ağrı from 1923, the year of the proclamation of the Republic, until 1960, when the Democratic Party (DP) government ended. In the research, primary sources on the subject were used, as well as the Presidency State Archives Republic Archive documents, TUIK statistics, Grand National Assembly of Turkey Minutes, and national and local press news. This study is a qualitative study and the data was obtained using the document analysis technique.
