Investigation of Republic era science lessons curricula according to Spranger's value classification

The schools not only have the purpose of improving students' knowledge and skills, but also improving their affective skills such as honesty, patriotism, and so forth. These concepts refer to values education in today's science curricula. These aims of schools are expressed in a planned and programmed way in the curricula. In this study, the middle school Science Lessons curricula put into practice from the early Republic to the present are analyzed according to Spranger's Value Classification. Document analysis method is used for qualitative data collection in the research. The documents analyzed in the research are the curricula prepared by the Talim Terbiye Kurulu (TTKB) (Board of Education). The value expressions obtained by reading these curricula line by line are presented in tables and comparatively discussed. The research shows that many expressions in Spranger's Value Classification have been included in the science lessons curricula of all middle school curriculum in the history of the Republic. Among the programs that have been implemented since the declaration of the Republic, the 2005 curriculum stands out as the most comprehensive curriculum. The curriculum suggests 5 levels in order to acquire attitudes and values. Furthermore, the way to apply these gains during the teaching of the unit acquisitions is explained in detail in the curriculum. This study is significant because it reveales how the expressions about the values gained importance today have been included since the declaration of the Republic. In the research, it has been seen that many expressions that comply with Spranger's Value Classification are included in all Science Lessons curricula prepared after the proclamation of the Republic.
