Abstract (EN)

Industrialization and modernization are two mutual concepts which caused radical changes and transformations in urban and spatial organizations. Modernization of Republican Era, which was rather introduced and applied by means of state policies with a special emphasis on industrialization, generated some sort of periods having specific urban and spatial transformations. Especially in Early Republican Period, the industrial settlements designed with a modern rational approach, which had a total organizational understanding containing a variety of functional units besides productive units, are extensive building types through which modernization is introduced and promoted. In this study, Aydın Textile Settlement founded in 1950's will be scrutinized with respect to the modernization and industrialization of Republican era. Altough it is not established within a governmental investment, this settlement is considered as a reflection and extension of the Republican spirit regarding its qualities both in building and settlement scale. Moreover it shows a continuous approach same as Republican period, repeating the sensitive relations between the industrial settlement and the city. The contributions of Aydın Textile to this special era will be enlightened discovering the original and specific values of the Settlement.
