Spelling education in Turkish programs of Republic period

There are various rules in order to ensure order and unity in the written expression of each language and these rules form the spelling system of the language in question. Spelling education is given to teach individuals the correct spelling of words and to give the habit of using punctuation marks correctly and appropriately. Although the subject of spelling and punctuation is given with various explanations in most of the Turkish curriculum, When the content of the programs is examined, it is seen that the explanations about spelling education are less than the other learning areas and they are far from details. The objectives, acquisitions and explanations in the Turkish curriculum related to spelling and punctuation are not arranged in accordance with the level of understanding / comprehension of the students. In this study, the spelling education and the features of the Turkish course teaching programs prepared from 1924 to 2018 were emphasized and these programs were evaluated in terms of content.
