Population engineering in Siirt in the Republican Period (1927-1950)

History BC. The city of Siirt, which dates back to 3000 BC, was established at the intersection of Mesopotamian and Anatolian civilizations. The city of Siirt was attached to the province of Diyarbakir in the first periods when it joined the Ottoman Empire, and then the city of Siirt, which was connected to the province of Bitlis, was given the status of a province immediately after the establishment of the Republic. During this period, it has undergone significant demographic changes. The aim of the thesis study titled "Population Engineering in Siirt in the Republican Era (1927-19 1950)" is to determine and reveal data on the demographic structure and historical development of Siirt province. The change, development and potential in the population structure of Siirt province between the years 1927-1950 were tried to be examined in detail, within the scope of the available data, which was prepared in four parts. In the introduction, the concept of population, the historical development of the concept of population and the censuses made in the world from past to present are discussed. In the first part, detailed information about the historical background of Siirt province from the first ages to the Ottoman Empire and the National Struggle Period is given. In addition, the censuses made during the Ottoman Empire and the population of Siirt are also mentioned. In the second part, the social, political and economic developments that took place in the province of Siirt from the establishment of the Republic to the 1950s are discussed. In the third part, the main subject of the thesis and the population structure and characteristics of Siirt between the years 1927-1950 were tried to be conveyed by creating tables with the existing data. Finally, in the fourth part of the thesis, the population policies implemented by the Republic of Turkey are briefly mentioned.
