Abstract (EN)

In the context of the thesis on art criticism in Turkey from the proclamation of the Republic to the 1950s; it has been studied in long periods of time from the formation of the Academy in the West to the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic. Art and cultural policies of the state, the artist collectives, exhibiting practices, established artists and critics are emphasized by focusing especially on the proclamation of the Republic and the following process. The subject of the development of "art criticism in Turkey" is examined through the examples by surveying the newspapers, magazines and books that were published at that time. This study, which can be considered as 'a critique of art criticism' of a period, aims to make a general evaluation on the current situation by considering the social and political conditions of the period. The thesis also questions 'Could it be better or how could it be better?' and, aims to present an objective perspective by accepting the conditions and limitations of this period.
