Public reflection of educational and cultural activities according to Cumhuriyet newspaper (1930-1935)

The revolution and modernization movements, which were initiated with the proclamation of the Republic, showed themselves in the field of education and culture as well as in all areas of Turkish social life. These reforms, carried out under the leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, necessitated the establishment of institutions needed in this field in order to raise Turkish education and culture to a level suitable for the requirements of the age. The decisions taken and the activities carried out in this way were included in the Cumhuriyet Newspaper, founded by Yunus Nadi Abalıoğlu with the directives of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1924, and the public was enlightened about the educational and cultural activities between 1930-1935, which includes the main subject of the study, by writers and intellectuals of the newspaper. In this study, the thoughts and opinions of the writers and intellectuals in Cumhuriyet Newspaper on education and cultural studies between 1930-1935 were examined, and how the issues and issues that were on the agenda of that time were handled within the framework of historical actuality. The study was prepared in accordance with the basic qualitative research design, and the data obtained by scanning the copies of Cumhuriyet Newspaper between the years 1930-1935 were examined and interpreted by document analysis. The model of the study is the scanning model, and the power of enlightening, informing and influencing the public has been revealed with the scanned columns, criticisms and articles, the opinions, criticisms and suggestions of the writers and intellectuals on the educational and cultural activities of these years. Consequently, it was seen that Cumhuriyet Newspaper writers and intellectuals put forward important views on Turkish educational and cultural activities between the years 1930-1935, did not remain indifferent to the current issues of the period in this field, and expressed their thoughts and opinions, and fulfilled their duties and responsibilities in guiding and informing the official authorities and the public, set forth their contributions by both criticizing and supporting the activities carried out in this field by the Republican governments of the period in this field.
