Özet (EN)

This thesis named "The Town Kula in the Early Years of the Republic" has pointed out the short history, administrative and population structure of Kula including the last period of Ottoman State; the changes during the republic in this context; the social, cultural, economic and commercial life of Kula. Thus, it has been not only provided to know better and perceive the town in which we live in terms of understanding of local history, but also shown how the new lifestyle along with the Republic and reforms were perceived and applied from the perspective of that period. At first, while explaining how and in what conditions the subsequent developments occurred, in order to lay a basis, it has been determined the main characteristics of geographical and historical background of Kula. After explaining Kula's present location, the study has been continued with the place of Kula in the National Struggle, which means hard years for Kula. In the period of National Struggle, it has been analysed the joint defence of men and Kula people against the enemy and it has been shown with memories and documents that the country had not been saved easily. It has been shown the development of population and administration of Kula in connection with before and after the analysed period and emphasized how Kula grew. The study has been continued with the municipality of Kula and the municipality activities in the framework of understanding of municipality which was renewed with the declaration of the Republic. It has been aimed to explain the mayors' works, in the first ten years of the Republic how Kula grew with zoning and public works activities, and that Kula's face changed in appearance. Moreover, it has been attracted attention to in what conditions today's democracy was created by emphasizing Kula organizations of the Republican People's Party which is the first party of the Republic and the Free Republic Party which was created in the attempt to transition to the multi-party life. The followings have been examined: the education, health and sport issues, which are among social and cultural activities analysed as another section; how Kula kept pace with a new life; and how Kula reached its cultural level of the present. The followings have been analysed: the bairams and various celebrations; the interaction and communication fields of Kula people, by sightseeing and travels; perceiving and applying of the reforms in Kula. It has been aimed to illustrate them with sections about life of the period. Finally, the followings have been emphasized: the reflections of developments and changes in the economic and commercial fields along with the declaration of the Republic in Kula; touristic places identified with Kula: Fairy Chimneys, Kula Houses, First Human Footprints, Emir Thermal Springs, Mineral Waters; and Kula Carpets in terms of crafts.
