Microbiological analyses of dental plagoes on dental caries

Abstract (EN)

In the study, we selected patients who had dental caries or dental infections because we aimed to identify the bacteria that can cause these diseases. We studied 50 patient who had at least one dental caries, come to Dental Unit at Turgut Özal Medicine Center in a period of 14 months.. In one patient there was no bacteria. The number of patients who had polimicrobial infections were 47 (94%) of 49 patients. In 14 (32%) patients of who had polimicrobial bacteria, aerobic bacteria were isolated. In 33 (66%) patients had polimicrobial bacteria, there was aerobic and anaerobic polimicrobial growth. There was no patient who had only anaerobic bacteria. In total, 168 bacteria and six Candida spp. were isolated. The isolated microorganisms constituted of 25,9% anaerobic bacteria, 70,7% aerobic bacteria and 3,4% Candida spp. The most isolated anaerobic bacteria were Prevotella melaninogenica (3,4%), Bifidobacterium spp. (3,4%) and Porphyromonas asaccharolytica (2,8%), aerobic bacteria were Streptococcus spp. (27%), Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus spp. (18.4%) ve Neisseria spp. (9.2%).
