Abstract (EN)
BACKGROUND and AIM: This study was designed as a cross-sectional and comparative investigation to examine the relationship between vitamin D usage and premenstrual syndrome in women of reproductive age. MATERIAL and METHODS: The research was conducted between October 2024 and December 2024 with 128 female participants aged 18 to 49 who aplied a State Hospital. Data were collected through face-to-face surveys, which included the Participant Information Form, Visual Analog Scale, Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale and the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 26. Statistical significance was accepted as p<0.05. RESULTS: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) was identified in 36.7% of the women participating in the study. The total mean score of the PMS Scale was 102.67±39.42 among women who used vitamin D, while it was 128.59±44.78 among those who did not and a statistically significant difference was found. The mean total score of the Visual Analog Scale was 2.31±2.34 for women using vitamin D, and 3.81±2.75 for those not using it (p<0.05). A statistically significant positive correlation was found between the Premenstrual Syndrome Scale and its subdimensions and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (for each p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Women who take vitamin D supplements experience fewer PMS symptoms, and the severity of PMS and pain levels are lower compared to those who do not use vitamin D. Women who are exposed to sunlight for longer periods are less likely to experience depression.
