Transforming food regimes: The corporate food regime and its critique

The present study focuses on the Corporate Food Regime that is located in the neoliberal political economy and examines this regime with its historicity. The main intention of this study is to identify the role of global political economy in the current forms of food crises and to discuss the dynamics of alternative movements to this regime. The fundamental discussion in the study contends that food hegemony becomes a totality of more and more centralized, corporate, placeless and global linkages, while creating deeper inequalities in accession to food. In this regard, first of all, it will be argued that food increases its significance and intensity in global political economy, while conceptualizing food systems as a formation around Center-Periphery relations. Based upon this analysis, the study will focus pn Neoliberal-Corporate Food Regime, its reflection on Turkey, and the Progressive and Radical movements that come up with an solution to it. This thesis approaches food as a constituent of the hegemonic association between Center-Periphery duality, and tries to think of ways to a just association with respect to food. As a result, the study suggests that among the movements, Radical Food Movement is the actual alternative to the self- reproducive hegemony in food.
