Abstract (EN)

Desulphurization of a Turkish lignite (Balkaya) by pyrolysis in nitrogen and carbondioxide environments has been investigated. For this purpose, an electrically heated furnace was used. Thus, coal samples was placed in sample holder and pyrolysed required period, temperature and at fixed gas flow rate. When pyrolysis finished, sample holder content was weighed and analysed. In general, the degree of desulphurization increased with increasing of reaction temperature and reaction time. It was found that nitrogen atmosphere at low temperatures, but carbon dioxide atmosphere at high temperatures was more effective in forms of pyritic sulphur removal. Carbondioxide atmosphere was more effective in organic sulphur removal. Organic sulphur removal was reached to ratio of 96% in carbondioxide atmosphere while it was removed at ratio of 62% in nitrogen atmosphere. 2002,57 pagesKeywords : Desulphurization, pyrolysis, organic sulphur, pyritic sulphur, Turkish Lignite
