Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to deal with the thoughts of Thomas Paine, one of the eighteenth century American thinkers, on Christianity and to reveal his grounding of deism. First of all, the definition of deism, its historical development and its position among other forms of belief were touched upon, and then the explanations about the elements that Thomas Paine dismissed in Christian teachings as contrary to reason were given in detail. According to Paine, the principles of deism, which is the true religion, and its constituent elements have been examined. With a theistic point of view, the possibility of deism and the consistency of this system of thought have been evaluated.
