Abstract (EN)

İntroduction: shed light on this thesis can be created in mind whether a mad honey poisoning can be evaluated as cholinergic poisoning;it was aimed at the patients whose clinical signs of mad honey poisoning is very similar to cholinergic poisoning to determine whether their blood pseudocolinesterase levels fell like the blood level of cholinergic poisoning droppedMaterial and Method: After ethics committe aproval, this study was performed between in September -2008 and in September -2009 in the Karadeniz Technical university department of emergency medicine faculty. This is a study conducted prospectively on the patients who were admitted with mad honey poisoning to the emergency room.There were the patients with a history of honey to eat in this study. Also these patients poisoned by the mad honey had clinical findings (bradycardia, hypotension, syncope and dizziness). The blood samples were taken from the patients who were poisoned by the mad honey. The pseudocholinesterase levels were measured in this blood samples. According to this measure the normal pseudocholinesterase level for adult person was compared to (5400?13200 U/L) levels. İt was evaluated whether these levels were low.Findings: Thirty patients were enrolled in the study. Patients who complained most frequently of dizziness and nause were already admitted to the emergency room. Low blood pressure and bradycardia are the most common physical findings recognizes. When EKG features were evaluated, EKG abnormality existed in the patients admitted with mad honey poisoning in almost. The most common finding in these patients was found to be sinusal bradycardia. Our patients need no medication out of the atropine and didn't need a pacemaker. None of the patients recevied in the study didn't have history of illness will be pseudocholinesterase low. Ninety percent of patients (n=27) in the blood levels of pseudocholinesterase were within normal limits. Ten percent of the patients (n=3) in the blood levels was found at the bottom of the normal level.Results: Ten percent of the patients (n=3) included in the study were at lower levels of pseudocholinesterase. These results don't support that mad honey poisoning is evaluated as the poisoning of the cholinergic hypothesis. This information determined in mad honey poisoning which can be evaluated and not be evaluated as a cholinergic toxidrome should be examined with more extensive studies and a larger number of cases.
