Abstract (EN)

Refractories are one of the most important coating materials of liquid steel transfer ladles and melting furnaces used in the steelmaking process in the iron and steel industry. As a result of cost optimization studies in iron and steel production, continuous improvement activities in the performance of refractory materials are mandatory. It is important to know the thermomechanical properties, sintering parameters and degradation of liquid steel transfer ladles used in induction furnaces and to determine their suitability for use conditions. In this thesis, the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of MgO based refractory bricks used in iron and steel industry with different carbon contents used in liquid steel transfer ladles were investigated and the changes were determined. MgO - C based basic refractories, called "12C - 15C - Base" bricks, were cut to equal dimensions and exposed to hot air at 800 ° C and 1000 ° C for 8, 16 and 20 hours. These refractories were then milled to see if there was any phase change with XRD. It has been observed that the slag resistance properties of MgO - C bricks of the impurities found as graphite ash. The slag resistance of MgO - C bricks containing 99% purity magnesia but with lower crystal size was found to be better than that of MgO - C bricks containing 97% purity magnesia.
