Risk assessment application in a facility that manufactures railway rail fasteners

The recent development of industry and technology in the world and our country has caused to the formation of different business lines and the importance of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) culture has increased in working life. Production processes that constantly modernizing and improving themselves, rising production capacities have caused the increase of occupational diseases and accidents in business life, and it has led to the necessity of making some regulations in terms of OHS in order to prevent these problems. As a result of relevant studies on OHS applied to workers in the metal sector, occupational accidents are minimized and accidents resulting to death are prevented with a great extent. The metal sector, which is the subject of the study, is important in terms of growing Turkish economy due to the rapid proliferation of utilization areas of products with steel raw, the increase in consumption culture, the supply of intermediate goods to the production industry and the export effect. Railway systems also have a large place in usage areas of products including steel raw. Since the existence of the railway in human life, rail fastening materials where steel raw materials are used extensively have been important parts for the continuation of sector. The rapid development of railway vehicles and rail systems in recent years, rail link components under high-speed tow trucks and heavy loads are soaring the importance of these materials in terms of both safety and trade sustainability. Rail link component manufacturing plants in metal manufacturing sector, include processes such as raw material acceptance, grading, hot forging, deburring, rubbing, stamp fixing, zinc lamella coating, plastic injection and packaging, and these processes take part as "Hazardous" class in terms of occupational health and safety. Within the scope of this study; Risk and Hazard definitions were made using the 5x5 Matrix Risk Assessment Method with a company that manufactures railway link components, the obtained results were interpreted in terms of employees, and information was given about the measures taken. In the analysis study carried out within the company; Risk and Hazard definitions were made by examining the company on the basis of areal and used machines, the effects of chemical hazards, electricity, fire, noise, dust, hand tools, work equipment and ergonomic hazard sources on employee health were tried to be determined, the obtained results were interpreted in terms of the employees and information was given about the measures taken. Moreover, some recommendations have been made to eliminate risks for the company.
