Abstract (EN)

In this thesis study, it is explained that how lighting characteristics of Marker lights and tail lights on MT15400 series DMUs, which has been produced by Turkish Wagon Industry Inc.(TÜVASAŞ) and owned by TCCD Transportation Inc., is affected with changing glass based optical lenses to polycarbonate optical lenses. Additionally; the disadvantages and the advantages of the polycarbonate optical lenses compared to the glass lenses and the affects of railway standards to the designing process of new lighting luminaires' polycarbonate optical lenses are investigated. Furthermore, glass and polycarbonate lenses have been subjected to lighting test under laboratory conditions and evaluation of these test results has been given with the determination of its benefits to both to TÜVASAŞ and Turkey in this thesis.
