Abstract (EN)

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the modern Turkish state, planned to move to multi-party life shortly after the declaration of the Republic. Less than a year after the founding of the Republican People's Party, the Progressive Republican Party was founded under the presidency of Kazım Karabekir. After the first unsuccessful experience, the fate of the Free Republican Party did not end well either. At the current point, the plan to transition to multi-party democratic life during Atatürk's term fell through. After Atatürk's death, who left behind many revolutions and a great Republic, the balance of power in the world had changed greatly. Following the Second World War, America and European states, on the one hand, tried to ensure world peace and on the other hand, made great efforts to bring Turkey to their side. The Turkish government was very eager to enter the United Nations, which was known as the address of peace in the newly formed world order, and took many steps to make this happen in a multi-party manner. A strategic roadmap was followed and the foundation of the Democratic Party was laid. A group that broke away from the ruling party took great care to act according to the wishes of the public after the party formation phase was completed. A new page was opened in Turkish politics with the day of the white revolution, May 14, 1950, when it finally took place. The years when the Democrat Party was in power were the anti-thesis of the Single Party era. Although this situation was felt in many areas, when it came to national interests and the defense of the homeland, no deviation was seen from the basic policies of the state. In this study, the investments made in the military field and the national defense moves in the context of the developments in domestic and foreign policy during the Menderes era were examined. During the study, which consists of four parts, some developments or documents were put forward in order to destroy the basic problematic thesis that the relations between the Turkish army and the Democrat Party were constantly tense. It was emphasized that national defense strategies and every step taken to strengthen all units of the Turkish army guide the activities to be carried out in the coming years. Contrary to popular belief, it was argued that the power of the land, air and naval forces was increased by Menderes and his team. It was stated that what was done in the defense industry guided the design of the army. However, the latest military coup proved to some extent that the democrats indirectly prepared their own end with their own hands.
