An important figure of the Democrat Party period: Namık Gedik and his political activities

The Ministry of Interior has taken its place among the most important ministries both during the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey. The fact that the responsibility is in the Ministry of the Interior on matters concerning the internal security of the country has increased the importance of this ministry. The Ministers of Interior have taken their place among the most influential people in the cabinet. In this study, Namık Gedik, who was the Ministry of Interior of Republic of Turkey in the longest period after Şükrü Kaya, will be examined about his political activities. Especially after he became the Minister of Interior in 1954, his attitude towards the Ministry and his approach to events will be evaluated within the general conjuncture. While analyzing the Democratic Party period, the Ministry of Interior has a special importance in the relations between the government and the opposition. Because, in many incidents that confront the DP and the opposition, the Ministry of Interior, Namık Gedik is also included. In this context, it was important to develop a perspective from the Ministry of Interior's axis in order to better understand the general picture while examining the DP period. This study aims to look at the events that took place on the way to the 27 May Military Intervention from the window of the Ministry of Interior. The role played by Namık Gedik during the events and his position in the government were examined and a healthy study was tried to be put forward. Because, developing a perspective on the Ministry of Interior's axis is imperative for a better understanding of the DP period. Furthermore, it is aimed to obtain a healthy result by examining the information, documents and memories about the death of Namık Gedik.
