3. SUMMARY THE ASSESSMENT OF ANTIOXIDANT EFFECT OF E VITAMINS ON KIDNEY GLOMERULE CHANGES IN EXPERIMENTAL INDUCED DIABETES IN RATS. It is defined as a diabetes melitus, lypid and protein metabolism corruption accompanied by insuline deficiency. As is observed in many pathological fields, in recent years the pathogenic role of oxygen radicals in diabetic complications have become a source of interest. Oxidative damage inflicted by reactive oxygen species is also referred to as "oxidative stress" and reflects a shift in the prooxidant- antioxidant balance in favor of the former. Evidence has accumulated indicating that the generation of reactive oxygen species (oxidative stress) may play an important role in the etiology of diabetic complications. The preservation of cellular and subcellular membrane intgrity is one of the leading functions of alpha-tocopherol as a significant endogen and exogen. The biological activity of vitamin E results principally from its antioxidant properties and subsuquently the protection of molecules and biological systems from oxidative damage by oxygen-derived free radicals. Before the clinical syndromes of diabetic nephropathy develop, changes are witnessed in the glomerule hemodynamic. This phase is a functional phase and the developed changes are reversibl and will lead to the medial phase of kidney insufficiency unless appropriate treatment is practiced. Reactive, morfological deficiencies develop in the basal membrane and the mesangium. Within our study, the scope was to examine the preservative effects of vitamin E on the reversibl developments in the early diabetic phase. With the rats that were influenced to diabetes through the injection of streptozotocin, the kidney were examined histopathologically, after eight weeks and compared with the results of the group that had been influenced with diabetes and treated with vitamin E. It was observed that the vitamin E treatment had significantly reduced the glomerulosclerose in the kidneys as in comparison with the control group (P<0.01).
