Abstract (EN)
Although organophosphates (OP) have got a lot of benefits, their unconscious usages cause serious toxicities. In this study we have investigated that fenthion, which is a kind of organophosphate, has caused toxicity and changes of oxidant-antioxidant system on treatment process. For this experimental study rats were divided 5 groups. All groups had received fenthion (0.8 g/kg) except sham group before treatments groups received 100 mg/kg vitamin E, 100 µg/kg selenium, 100 mg/kg vitamin E + 100 µg/kg selenium and control group received 2 ml/kg normal saline. Changes of oxidative stress on antioxidant system were measured in blood. Malondialdehyde (MDA) level of control group was the highest and other groups? MDA levels decreased. Even though other groups? glutathione levels increased in comparison with sham, only there was significant different between sham group and control group (p<0.01). In proportion to sham and control, vitamin C levels of treatment groups increased. There was no significant different between glutathione peroxidase (GPx) level of sham and GPx levels of treatment groups but they were lower than control group (p<0.001). Vitamin E, selenium and vitamin E - selenium had a protective effect in conditions of oxidative stress damage induced by OP compounds.2008, 84 pagesKey Words: organophosphate, fenthion, vitamin E, selenium, oxidative stress, antioxidant system
