Determination of heavy metal content of marl using in Denizli and around

In and around Güney, Buldan, Akköy, Sarayköy, Babadağ districts of Denizli province, where the study is carried out, the use of marl is frequently encountered. The people of the region use the marl, which exhibits different compositions and properties, in the unfermented grape-juice (molasses syrup). However, it is overlooked that these marls may cause some health problems. The problem is that these marls are contaminated with heavy metals due to anthropogenic causes and natural conditions. Geological formation processes, especially being located near the highway of quarries belonging to the used marls, being in the area where the soil may be affected from garbage residues and the effect of agrochemicals used in agriculture; can cause the heavy metal contents in these marls to be adversely affected. For this reason, it is foreseen that the marl may cause different health problems in terms of the time, exposure time and the rate of reaching the human body. 33 samples were taken from 18 different locations, from the quarries where marls being used in the districts of Güney, Buldan, Akköy, Sarayköy, Babadağ and nearby of Denizli provinces. Preliminary evaluations of the samples were made and their contents were evaluated in the order of XRD, XRF, FTIR and SEM analyses. In these investigations, TiO2 anomaly was detected in Sarayköy-Beylerbeyi (H17) with the 0,63% highest value and Sarayköy-Kumluca (H15) with 0,51% value. The anomaly value for Cr2O3 was highest value at Babadağ-Ahıllı (H27 27) with a value of 0.04%. SiO2 anomaly was determined at Sarayköy-Beylerbeyi (H17) with the highest value of 44.31%. K2O anomaly was determined at Sarayköy-Beylerbeyi (H16) location with the highest value of 1.69%. It has been determined that these quarries, where samples were taken, may lead to various health problems in the context of the stated values and exposure time.
