Evaluation of knowledge, attitudes and awareness levels of parents of children with dental trauma through ToothSOS mobile application

Aim: In our study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of the training provided to parents of children with traumatic dental injuires (TDI) exposure using the ToothSOS mobile application on their awareness and knowledge levels on appropriate emergency response management. Material and Methods: Our study was carried out by filling out the questionnaire forms to evaluate the awareness of the parents of 128 pediatric patients who applied to Suleyman Demirel University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Pedodontics Clinic between 01 April 2023-01 April 2024 due to TDI, at three different time intervals: before using the ToothSOS mobile application (T0), after reviewing the application (T1) and 1 month after downloading the application (T2). The data obtained were statistically analyzed. Results: In line with the data obtained; it was reported that 99,2% of the parents did not receive any training on TDY management and 96,1% had not heard of the ToothSOS mobile application. It is seen that the knowledge level of 97,7% of the participants about TDY emergency intervention approaches was insufficient-low before using the application (T0), and this value increased to sufficient-high level in 92,2% of the participants immediately after using the application. The training received with ToothSOS, a mobile application, showed a statistically significant increase in the knowledge level of the participants at T1 compared to T0 (p<0,05). Conclusion: The use of the ToothSOS mobile application used in the study in TDY emergency intervention approaches was found to be successful in increasing the level of knowledge and awareness of individuals on the subject. There is a need for more comprehensive studies on the subject.
