Attachment styles and psychological resilience as predictives of burnout in the marriages of earthquake victims

Abstract (EN)
FollowingtheearthquakesthatstruckTurkey on February 6, 2023, thenationfacedsignificantlosses, profoundlyaffectingvarioussystems, includingthemaritalsystem. It is crucialtoexamine how marriedindividualswereimpactedbythiscrisisandtoassessthestate of theirmaritalrelationships. Thisstudyinvestigateswhetherattachmentstylesandlevels of psychologicalresilienceamongmarriedearthquakesurvivorsliving in containerhomes can predictcoupleburnout. Theresearchsamplecomprised 372 marriedsurvivorsresiding in temporaryhousingareas in Adıyaman, with 248 women (66.7%) and 124 men (33.3%). Data collectionoccurred in December 2024. TheCoupleBurnoutScalewasusedtomeasuremaritalburnout, theExperiences in Close Relationships Inventory–II (ECR-II) assessedattachmentstyles, andtheBriefResilienceScaleevaluatedpsychologicalresilience. A Demographic Information Form collectedparticipants' background data. Data analysiswasperformedusing IBM SPSS 27.0, employinghierarchicalmultiplelinearregressiontodeterminewhetherattachmentstylesandpsychologicalresiliencesignificantlypredictmaritalburnoutamongearthquakesurvivors in temporaryhousing. Inthisstudy, it wasfoundthattheindependentvariablesexplained 25.7% of the total variance in thedependentvariable. Whileanxiousattachmentandpsychologicalresilienceweresignificantpredictors of coupleburnout, avoidantattachmentwas not foundto be a significantpredictor.Thefindingswerediscussed in thecontext of existingliterature, withrecommendationsprovidedforbothresearchersandmarriedindividuals. Thisstudycontributesto a betterunderstanding of thepsychologicalsupportneeds of marriedindividualsliving in temporarysheltersafterdisastersandmayinformthedevelopment of family-oriented post-disasterinterventionprograms.
