A review on attitudes of syrian students receving education in public schools towards physical education and sports

ABSTRACT At this study, attitudes of Syrian origin high school students towards physical education and sports course are researched. Correlational survey model is used as survey model at this study. As data collection tools, Personal information form prepared by the researcher and "Attitude scale towards physical education lesson for secondary school student" developed by Güllü and Güçlü in 2009 are used. Target population of the study is consisted of high school students. Syrian origin high school students in Altınözü and Yayladağı districts of Hatay province are determined as sample group. Data collection tools are distributed to 350 volunteer students and privacy is taken into consideration. 314 of the tools are used at the research and the rest (36 scales) are not used due to having some deficiencies. The datas obtained are analyzed with SPSS 25 packaged software. For paired comparison Mann-Whitney U test and for multiple comparisons Kruskal-Wallis H test are used. Reliability of scale is determined via Cronbach's Alpha coefficient. According to research results, it is determined that attitudes of Syrian origin high school students towards physical education and sports course shows meaningful differences in terms of these variables –"gender", "doing sports regularly", frequency of doing sport", "license", "sports experiences" and "having a family member doing sport"-. No meaningful difference is determined according to the following variable –"age", "grade", "educational background of mother", "educational background of father" and "time they have spent in Turkey".
