The role of ADEM in ensuring the social integration of disadvantaged families: The example of Tatvan district of Bitlis province

In this study, the role of Family Support Centers (FSCs) operating under the Presidency of Social Assistance and Solidarity Foundation (SYDV) in the social integration of disadvantaged families in Tatvan district of Bitlis province is analyzed sociologically. Tatvan district of Bitlis province stands out as a settlement where disadvantaged groups live intensively. ADEMs are places where practical and theoretical lessons are given on the importance of social norms, the status of women in the family and the concept of family, the importance of raising children, combating substance abuse, violence against women, combating child abuse, vocational training and workshops. In the research, qualitative method and semi-structured interview technique, which is one of the data collection techniques of qualitative method, were used in accordance with the subject of the study. The population of this study consisted of the trainees trained in ADEMs operating in Tatvan district and the people in the position of coordinators and trainers within the center, and the sample of the study consisted of 27 participants selected from this population. As a result of the study, it was seen that the trainees preferred ADEMs to gain economic gain by acquiring vocational skills, to get out of monotony and to meet a new social environment. It was also found that ADEMs provide trainings for women from disadvantaged families to acquire basic life skills as well as vocational skills It was observed that ADEMs create spaces where disadvantaged women can relax psychologically and socialize. With cinema, theater, skiing, picnics, in-province and out-of-province excursions, women's social life space was expanded and a positive change was observed in their perceptions of social life. It has been observed that women exhibit an attitude towards integration into society with all the gains they have achieved in ADEMs.
