Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of digital storytelling on secondary school students' attitudes towards Turkish lesson and their academic self-level regarding Turkish lesson. In the research, a pretest-posttest control group experimental design, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. Since the classes were determined between the two groups that were ready to collect the quantitative data of the research, random assignments to the experimental and control groups could not be made, and the quantitative data were collected by this method. The study group of the research consists of 78 students studying in the 5th grade of a public school in Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı province. Among these 78 students, 39 students studying in class 5-C were assigned as the experimental group, and 39 students studying in class 5-E were assigned as the control group. The research was conducted in the 5th grade Turkish course in the fall semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. During the 6-week experimental application process, digital stories prepared by the researcher and activities created for them were used in the lessons held with the experimental group. Digital stories have been prepared by taking into account the subject suggestions in the Turkish Language Curriculum, which are planned to be covered in the learning and teaching process and included in the teaching materials. In the lessons conducted with the control group, no additional materials were used and the process was carried out as normal. As data collection tools in the study, the Attitude Scale Towards Turkish Lesson and the Academic Self-Concept Scale for Turkish Lesson was used. Data obtained from these scales applied to the experimental and control groups before and after the experimental procedures; ıt was analyzed using the SPSS-27 program. In order to see the differences in the group averages of the variables, Independent Sample T-Test was applied to variables with 2 groups, and Kruskal Wallis-H Analysis was applied to variables with 3 or more groups. At the same time, since the data did not show a normal distribution, Mann Whitney U-Test, one of the non-parametric statistics, was used. As a result of the research, it was revealed that after the experimental procedure, there was a significant difference in favor of the experimental group in terms of attitudes towards the Turkish course and academic self-level post-test scores between the groups.
