Abstract (EN)
This research aims at introducing and using the digital media tools and sources within the concept of translation competencies during the translation education in higher education, based on the contemporary translation studies researches developing day by day. In this regard, the concepts of mass communication, media and internet and the web technologies were described. The improvement processes of these concepts around the world and in Turkey were examined. Then, the digital media concept, its coverage and functions, computer programs and smart phone applications, social media programs and applications are described. The fundamental aim of this research is to indicate and concretise how to use the digital media tools during the translation education as it is used in language education and in other disciplines. In the main components of higher education institutions, faculties and higher schools, in our country, the students who have translation education in Translation and Intrepretation Departments, Translation Studies Departments and Applied English and Translation Programs begin to work as high-grade intermediate staff in manufacturing and service sectors after their graduations. These staffs are required to acquire knowledge and skills during their education and besides, using technology adequately and effectively is another necessity for their business life. The translation education focused on usage of computer software, language and translation mobile applications in smart phones, social media channels and forums used for communication and entertainment used by students are in the scope of this research. In addition to the sub-competencies under translation competence, digital media competence, which aims to introduce the usage of digital media tools during the translation education, was offered in this thesis. In addition to the literature research, within the scope of dissertation, via a survey study carried out with the participation of students, the attitudes and behaviours of students about digital media tools and translation techologies are measured, and an attitude scale is developed. In accordance with the data received, the course proposals for "Translation and Digital Media I-II", with the purpose of involving digital media competence in translation education, are offered.
