Change processof video news with digitalization

With technological advances and related developments in mass media, the ways of obtaining news have changed, but the interest in news that satisfies people's sense of curiosity has never diminished. Due to the high level of interest, the way each broadcasting organization delivers the news has changed over time. In recent years, especially the development of internet technologies has enabled news to find a place in digital media, a new medium, in a short time. Although the new broadcasting concept is limited to internet televisions in Samsun, a brand new process is taking place in the scope of news reporting. In this thesis, the change process of video news with digitalization is discussed in the example of Samsun province. The aim of this thesis is to reveal the process of change in video news with digitalization based on the news receiving habits of individuals living in Samsun and the opinions of media professionals working in the news channels preferred by these individuals about the changing understanding of journalism. In this thesis, quantitative and qualitative approaches were used together. Questionnaire and in-depth interview techniques were used as data collection tools in the thesis. In the context of quantitative approach, a questionnaire was applied to 306 people living in Samsun. With the survey applied, data on which social media platforms individuals living in Samsun follow the news the most, the news content preferred by people, and audience expectations were obtained. Based on the survey data, in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of five people, including the three social media accounts most followed by the respondents, a traditional television and a television official who only broadcasts online. Through the interviews, data on the changing news production processes for journalists and how they are affected by this transformation were obtained. The data obtained by analyzing the questionnaire shows that individuals living in Samsun access the internet mostly from their phones, that individuals follow the news from their social media accounts, that they get the news mostly from "Instagram" social media accounts, and that individuals living in Samsun follow short news. As a result of the in-depth interviews with the officials of five organizations, it was understood that the practices of journalists in creating news have changed. It has been observed that the images instantly received from the scene by social media users are published without any editing process, and that the news production process has changed radically, thus the number of working journalists has decreased considerably.
