Abstract (EN)
Non-natural materials such as concrete and metal used in building envelope in urban areas cause the decrease of the diversity of living organisms in the environment and increase the effect of urban heat island by giving out the heat they get to their buildings during the day. Designing green spaces in urban areas with intensive construction, designing natural materials in the buildings and designing them in relation to the surroundings of the buildings is inevitable for a sustainable environment. In addition to being used as architectural and constructive facade elements in the buildings, vertical green systems emphasize sustainability in the application of natural green textures in the building envelope and in increasing the quality of the air. In this study, the usage of vertical green systems from past to present is explained, technical features and application types are examined. Benefits provided by vertical green systems for building-specific and urban scale have been considered in the context of reduction of urban heat island effect, increase of environment and building indoor air quality and ensuring ecological diversity, energy saving. 10 Multi-storey buildings with vertical green system were selected from various regions of the world, taking into account their location, climate class and the period they were practicing, their characteristics were examined and evaluated through these examples. As a result of the evaluation made, the criteria to be considered for applying a useful vertical green system to the environment have been put forward by making suggestions for the design and use of vertical green system.
