The attitudes of religious officials towards gender roles: The case of Çorum

This study, which was conducted to determine the attitudes of religious officials towards gender roles, is a descriptive study. The research includes 527 religious officials working in the provincial center and villages of the Çorum Provincial Mufti. The data of the study were collected between 15 March 2021 and 30 March 2021 using a questionnaire to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of religious officials, prepared by the researcher, and the Gender Roles Attitude Scale, the validity and reliability of which was made by Zeyneloğlu in 2008. The data obtained; descriptive statistics, Student's t-Test for comparing two group means, One Way ANOVA for comparing more than two group means, and Tukey test as Post Hoc test for multiple comparisons; evaluated using Ordinal Logistic Regression Analysis for further analysis. In the study, it was determined that the total score average of the Gender Roles Attitude Scale of religious officials was 129.92±12.18. This result shows us that religious officials have an egalitarian attitude towards gender roles. On the other hand, female religious officials compared to men, those under 51 years old compared to those over 51 years old, those with faculties and post-doctoral degrees according to high school and college graduates, those whose spouses work compared to those whose spouses do not work, and those who work in the city compared to those who work in the village. It has been determined that they have a more egalitarian attitude. In line with the results obtained, suggestions have been made to ensure that the attitudes of religious officials towards gender roles are more egalitarian and to raise awareness of gender equality among religious officials.
