The effect of geogebra as a dynamic mathematics software on students' academic achievements: Meta-analysis study

This study investigates the effect of the use of GeoGebra as dynamic mathematics software on students' academic achievements in mathematics lessons. In this study, meta-analysis method which uses the findings of the experimental studies together was used. The studies regarding this purpose and conducted in Turkey were browsed in national thesis center, ULAKBIM and Google Scholar. Total of 36 experimental studies with 39 effect sizes were gathered and they were included in the meta-analysis. The sample of this study was found to be 1892 students consisting of 951 students from experimental and 941 students from control groups in the studies of this meta-analysis. The studies were coded according to publication year, publication type, grade level, subject type, school type, and sample size and their moderator analyses and average effect size were investigated. The data gathered revealed that all effect sizes in the studies were positive and the average effect size was found to be 0,886. According to these findings, this study had high effect size and GeoGebra software had positive effect on students' academic achievements. In addition, the studies had homogenous according to publication year, publication type, grade level, subject type, school type, and sample size variables. Therefore, the effect size values yielded statistically insignificance results for them. Lastly, according to the findings of this study, some recommendations were presented to curriculum developers, teachers as practitioners and teacher educators.
