Abstract (EN)

To veil oneself is one of the most fundamental elements in Islamic Law and Islam Ethics. Veiling oneself which is found in all religions in essence is handled under the lights of Holy Quran and Sunnah in Islamic Law. While dealing with the veiling issue the open fields to bring forward opinions are in general mentioned as Kerahiye and Istihsan. Veiling became a fundamental topic that is being discussed parallel to the value of women and women's position in society, and the capability and density of agenda setting in modern world over sex and female-male relations. Debates started especially in 1980's after a ban on headscarf, and these debates intensified in 1990's and 2000's. In this thesis I will examine headscarf debates between 1998 and 2010. Headscarf debates were at their peak in the period between 1998 and 2010. Hence, I tried to analyse the period through use of articles published in religious periodicals. To be able to do this 28 articles made subject to explain the definition and essence of veiling from past to present. Thesis will start withdefining rules and shapes of veiling which are decided according to divine religions are mentioned. Continues with, an analysis of veiling through use of fundamental sources of Islam such as hermeneutics, hadith and Islamic law. Finalises with, analysis of articles publish at the period of headscarf ban (1998-2010).
