Examining the relationship between religious attitude, self-regulation, free will, and determination

From past to present, many researches and studies have been done to examine the causes and consequences of human behavior. These studies state that some of the behaviors exhibited by the individual are hereditary and some of them are shaped by environmental effects. While individuals plan and design some of their behaviors themselves, they believe that others are a product that emerges spontaneously. Considering that individuals' behaviors may be predetermined or manifested by their own will, it is thought that individuals' belief structures, attitudes and self-regulation skills may be effective on these behaviors. The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between religious attitude and indicator levels of religious life, self-regulation, free will and determinism. However, it is aimed to examine whether this situation differs according to demographic variables. The population of the research consists of all adult individuals living in Turkey. The research was conducted with a sample group of 216 people through online questionnaires. The participants were asked to answer the questions of "Free will and determinism scale" adapted by Alper and Sümer, "Self-regulation scale" adapted by Aydın et al., "Religious attitude scale" developed by Ok and Indicators of religious life. As a result of the study, significant relationships were found between individuals' self-regulation, free will determinism levels and religious attitudes. In addition, it was determined that the variables of age, educational status and socio-economic level caused a differentiation between the religious attitude, self-regulation, free will and determinism levels of the individuals, but the gender variable did not lead to differentiation.
