Abstract (EN)
The scope and limitations of this dissertation titled "Literate Circles in Divan Literature the Reign of Ahmed III and Mahmud I (1703-1754)" are designated in the "Introduction" part through concepts of "literate circles" and "patronage". In the first part, the theoretical framework for the notion of "patronage" is tried to be set, forms of patronage are discussed, and literate circles evolving during the period of Ahmet III and Mahmud I are examined. In this section, the information regarding various topics including the development of a literate environment, patrons and their characteristics, attitudes of poets towards patrons, and favorite poets who are patronized during the reign of Ahmet III and Mahmud I are presented comparatively. The literate circles developing under the patronage of the aforesaid Sultans and the literate circles developing under the patronage of high-ranking civil servants are discussed in the second part and the third part respectively. Finally, the results are summarized in the "Conclusion" section.
