Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY The effects of approach in diabetes educations on patients knowledge and interaction of psychosocial issue. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of the approach in diabetes educations effects of patients knowledge who had diabetes mellitus and interaction of psychosocial issue in these patients. 40 patients, who were diagnosed as Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 at the Internal Medicine Department of Afyon Kocatepe University, Ahmet Necdet Sezer Research and Training Hospital, were included in the survey. These patients were the ones who either had been given education not sooner than a year before or had been given no education in the past. None of the patients had psyciatric disordes and all were asked for their approval to be included in the study. The patients were divided into two groups of 20. The members of the first group were given an individual education and the members of the latter received group education. This group was also divided into five sub-groups of 4. A questionaire consisting of three parts was used for collecting data. In the first part, questions related to the demographical status of the patients and the process of the disease were asked. Then in the second part Diabetes Knowledge Test designed by Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center was used to measure the awareness of patients regarding the disease. Finally in the last part, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD) was used to measure the patients' anxiety and depression levels. This questionaire was applied on the patient from each group both before and after the education. While processing the data collected through the questionaire, Oneway ANOVA, t- test and chi square test were used. This study showed that the education given was effectual on patients from both groups. In each group it is found out that the level of efficiency were equal. In group education, scores of those who didn't have any sign of anxiety and /or depression was found to be higher both before and after the education. In individual education there is no significant value observed.As a result, the education of patients with Diyabetes must be handled rigorously and each patient together with his / her family must be included in the educational process.
