The effect of disease process on social life on the diabetes patient and level about psychological stability of patients

Chronic diseases constitute a major health problem all over the word. One of them is diabetes mellitus (DM).DM is a metabolic disorder, characterised by decrease in the amount of insulin secreted from beta cells, insulin absence and hiper-glisemia because of insulin insensitivity in the peripherial tissue. One of its' complicasion is mental health and psychology. Social support has an important role in providing the best treatment for diabetic patients and decreasing the physical, psychosocial and economic problems during treatment process. Determination of the areas in which diabetic patients need social support can provide important clues for psychosocial interventions that social workers, psychologists, nurses and physicians will handle. Social work is a social work area that social work's knowledge, value and skills are adapted to patients who have medical care. Although this area is one of the oldest areas of social work science and profession, it did not show the desired improvement because of insufficient academical studies and professional personnel in Turkey. This study aims to contribute social work practices that are actualized and can be actualized in medical settings for progress in medical social work area and practices.
