Abstract (EN)
Cultural heritage is universal artifacts that have been transferred to the present day and are a subject of value for all people. Historical buildings are documents and symbols that were built with the economic, social and cultural accumulation of societies and reflect the urban and architectural style of the period. The most preferred method of preserving historical buildings is to give the building a new function. Functional change is seen as a contemporary conservation approach in historical buildings. The reuse of historical buildings for preservation is an important tool in preserving the values of the buildings. With this understanding of protection in which values are kept alive, the building continues to live, and at the same time, continuity is ensured in terms of economy and culture. Giving a new function to a historical building; It means saving from extinction, repair, maintenance, continuous use, positive contribution to the city silhouette, revival of historical awareness and contribution to economic revival. In this context, the research, which consists of 7 parts, covers the investigation of the historical buildings that have been reused with the change of function in the Diyarbakır Suriçi region and the examination of the contemporary function that was gained after the loss of the original functions of Vahap Ağa Bath, Deliller Han, İskender Paşa Mansion. In the first part of the research; the concept of refunctioning was explained, and the hypothesis of the research was determined by giving information about refunctioning in the world and in Turkey. Afterwards, the purpose of the research, the scope of the research and the method followed in the research, which was limited to the Suriçi region, were stated, and scientific and applied studies on re-functioning were examined. In the second part; the concepts of re-functioning, protection, and adaptation to re-use are explained, and at what points in life they appear. By specifying the reasons that make re-functioning necessary, the cultural, social, economic and social importance of this concept, as well as ensuring the survival of obsolete and unused structures, is given. In the third part; the geographical location of Diyarbakır and the historical development of Suriçi settlement, which is an urban protected area where other monumental structures are located along with the structures examined within the scope of the thesis, are mentioned. Referring to the formation of re-functioning in the Suriçi region, the historical buildings that were re-functioned in the region were indicated. In the fourth, fifth and sixth chapters; The architectural features of the buildings, plan, facade, cover, and the history of the Vahap Ağa Hamam (Fırın-ci Restaurant), Deliller Han (Diyarbakır Caravanserai) and İskender Paşa Mansion (İskender Paşa Mansion Cafe and Hookah House) examined within the scope of the thesis are included. explained under the headings of lighting, air conditioning, decoration. Subsequently, as a result of the functional change, spatial requirements were determined, spatial analyzes were made, space schemes were created and interventions applied to the structures were included. At the end of the chapter, the level of relationship between the spaces is stated and the new function that is given to the buildings is evaluated. Afterwards, suggestions were made to the problems encountered as a result of functional changes in the buildings. In the conclusion and recommendations section of the study; it has been stated that re-functioning is a necessity in order to keep historical buildings that have lost their function alive in social, cultural and economic terms. With this understanding, the necessity of adapting historical buildings to today's living conditions, based on the principles of protection, survival and sustainability, is discussed. The importance of efforts to put into use the functions of historical commercial buildings in the Suriçi region by re-functioning the functions that will provide social, cultural and economic benefits due to the aging of the traditional textures over time has been emphasized. It has been discussed that the functional changes of the buildings should be made by experts in the field. In the interventions, it was stated that inspections and public awareness should be increased in order to prevent uncontrolled practices.
