Effects of dietary ananise (Pimpinella anisum L.) oil on growth performance, blood parameters and muscle nutrient content of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

Abstract (EN)

In this study, anise oil was added to the diet of Nile tilapia at different rates (0.00%, 0.10%, 0.20% and 0.30%) and the fish were then fed this feed twice daily for 40 days. In the present study, the effects of anise oil on the growth performance, hematological parameters, biochemical parameters, serum antioxidant parameters, histopathology and muscle nutrient content of Nile tilapia were investigated. This research was carried out at Dr. Nazmi Tekelioğlu Freshwater Products Production and Research Station, Faculty of Fisheries, Çukurova University with 120 fish with an average initial body weight of 74.20±1.24 g. As a result of the research, the final weights of the fish were measured as 117.59±0.9 g, 124.71±0.81 g, 132.22±0.81 g and 129.53±0.72 grams, respectively. Dietary 0.10% and 0.20% pure anise oil increased feed intake of Nile tilapia, while 0.30% pure anise oil decreased feed intake. In addition, 0.10% and 0.20% pure anise oil added to tilapia feed decreased feed conversion rate of Nile tilapia, while 0.30% pure anise oil caused an increase in feed conversion rate. In the blood analyses taken from the fish at the end of the feeding period, it was seen that 0.10% and 0.20% pure anise oil added to the diet improved blood and biochemical parameters and increased antioxidant capacity. In the tissue samples taken, small amounts of tissue damage were detected depending on the anise oil ratio. In conclusion, it was seen that 0.10% and 0.20% pure anise oil added to Nile tilapia diets increased growth performance, improved blood parameters and increased antioxidant capacity.
