Experimental research of the effects of usage of biodiesel compare with diesel fuel on diesel engines

In this study which effects of alternative fuels to the the conventional motor fuels for the engine produced by the present engine technology were researched, biodiesel and conventional diesel fuels were used for the two separate engines synchronously and in the same conditions and effects of the fuels on the engines were observed comparatively.In this study experimentally various tests are carried out using differant equipmants and the results are evaluated. Samples received from the engine crankshaft oil in certain periods were analyzed by the ICP Spectrometer elementally, effects of the fuel on the engine wear was researched. Possible oxidation in the engine oil and changes in the engine features were compared by the FTIR Analysis and again TBN changes in the engine oils which is an important parameter in controlling the engines were comparatively researched. Engines are observed using thermal camera, thermal changes are compared. Vibration measures are performed, vibrations resulted from burning in the motor are researched and obtained values are compared. Injector pressure values were observed and effects of the fuels on fuel injectors and fuel pumps were evaluated by the SEM analysısAs a result of comparisons made by short perioded tests it was found `usage of biodiosel B100 in engine is possible by some changes made in motor? both of them have advantages and disadvantages.That thesis is supported by DPÜ BAP commitee with project number of 2008/7.Key words: Biodiesel, diesel, EDS, engine, elemental analysis, fuel, FTIR, ICP, injector, SEM, TBN, thermal analysis, vibration, wear.
